VERY good!
Tabitha
hated being the smallest in all her class. She hated that she couldn’t
see what everyone else could see. She especially hated being called
midget, or pipsqueak.
Everyday her confidence was shrinking down to her
height. Smaller and smaller. However one Sunday her size was going to be
her prized gift. Stuck up the tunnel was a little kitten. Mrs Turnball
said whoever gets him could have him.
The larger children wriggled and squirmed and tried to force
themselves down the tunnel. The kitten continued to cry. The children
all swapped turns to the next one. The laughed as each one took their
turn at being jammed in the tunnel.
At last, everyone in the group but Tabitha had had their
turn. “Can I have a turn,” Tabitha asked? The other children glanced
at her with a glare that made Tabitha think otherwise about climbing
down that tunnel.
“Why of course you can,” chirped Mrs. Turnball. Tabitha
skipped forward up to the neck of the tunnel. Standing on tippee toes
peering into the darkness, her eyes straining hard to locate the prize
awaiting her.
Mrs Turnball helped
her up in the same way as the rest of the children. Tabitha squirmed and
wiggled and slithered closer and closer to the kitten. The meowing of
the kitten acted as a guide of how much further she had to go. Slowly
and carefully, she progressed closer and closer.
Hooray! At last the little ball of fluff was firmly within her
grip. Tabitha began the long squirm back. This trip was nowhere near as
hard as going in. The joy of her prize and the light at the end was a
welcomed sight that kept her moving towards the exit.
The light guided her way out with her prize firmly in hand. AT
the entrance of the tunnel, Tabitha handed the kitten to Mrs Turnball.
“Thank you for the offer of the kitten but I want you to give it to
someone who really needs a friend.” With that Tabitha began skipping
home.
Suddenly there was a tap on the shoulder. Tabitha spun around.
There stood Josie with the kitten in her hand. “Excuse me why didn’t
you take the kitten?”
“I know I am not allowed kittens and I thought someone else
deserved it. I couldn’t leave it down there.”
“Tabitha, you are amazing! You are!.. Look, you went down that
tunnel even though we teased you. Then you gave it to me and I know I
probably teased you the most. I am sorry.”
“Arghh! Don’t worry about it. I forgive you. God is my friend
and he taught me a lot down through that tunnel today,” Tabitha said,
beginning to trail off as she began to think about her thoughts climbing
down through the tunnel.
“Tabitha, that’s interesting but I have to run. Perhaps one
day you may be able to tell me about it.” With that Josie began
running away.

WHAT DO YOU THINK TABITHA COULD
HAVE LEARNT CLIMBING DOWN THROUGH THE TUNNEL?
As Tabitha kept her focus strongly on the kitten’s meow, she
could continue to go forward. When we keep focused on God, we too can go
forward. It doesn’t matter where we are.
WHAT DO YOU THINK TABITHA LEARNT CLIMBING OUT OF THE TUNNEL?
The tunnel’s end was glowing with daylight to guide her out of
the darkness. God is our light lifting us out of darkness.
